Jewish Lisbon: from the old Jewish quarter to the Rossio memorial

The Jewish presence in Lisbon dates back centuries before the founding of the Portuguese nation. The old Judiaria Grande, located in today's Baixa district, was one of the main centres of Jewish communal life in the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages, with synagogues, schools and a thriving trade.

The suggested route starts in the area of the old Jewish quarter, passes along Rua da Judiaria in Alfama and ends at Largo de São Domingos, next to Rossio, where a memorial commemorates the victims of the 1506 massacre.
